The Lambda Youth Project, Hayward was founded in 1992. Lambda is committed to serving the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, & Questioning youth as well as their friends and families.

Purpose

to provide a safe place for young people to explore their feelings and connect with other young people
to allow you to talk about your relationships, build your self esteem & strengthen your leadership skills in a confidential environment
to be a place for you to go if you feel isolated, depressed, or just want to talk
to be of service to families dealing with LGBTQ issues
to explore healthy, drug/alcohol free activities
to be a resource for the greater community regarding LGBTQ youth issues (Lambda Speaker's Bureau, etc)
to offer LGBTQ youth a chance to create events together that celebrate diversity in our community (Lambda Gay Prom and other Lambda events!)
to be a networking hub for local GSA's in schools

Activities:

The Lambda Youth Project proudly sponsors and coordinates the annual Gay Prom
Gay Prom is an opportunity for LGBTQ youth to experience a prom free of harassment & fear
Our Lambda Speaker's Bureau educates public & private school faculty, staff & students, local faith communities, area hospitals, and other community service agencies about the particular needs of LGBTQ youth & families

Lambda Youth Project participates in community events such as the Gay Pride Parade, AIDS Walk, Lighthouse Community Picnic, San Jose Pride Parade, Dyke March SF, etc.

What keeps us going??

Funding & generous support from Project Eden/Horizon Services, Inc., Alameda County, The City of Hayward, The United Way, and Private Donors. Lambda is always in need of adult and youth volunteers, especially for the annual Gay Prom. Financial support makes it possible for Lambda to offer these professional services to its members.
